Hey, just here as a regular subscribing scientist-- the "doohickey with the grabby hands" is called a third hand, cuz it functions like you have a third hand :) and when you are soldering electronics, you are "saw-der-ing" them, not "sole-der-ing". Just heads up if you wanted to know the vernacular :)))

I respect that you took the wendigo video down. You saw that some people were hurt by the misuse of indigenous culture and chose to actively avoid causing that hurt. It doesn't matter if you think that hurt is valid or not. It doesn't matter if you think people shouldn't be offended. What matters is people were hurting, and a creater decided they weren't okay with that and changed their behaviour to avoid perpetuating that pain.

Guys... She disabled comments on the wendigo video because she didn't want people to defend her and tell her to change her mind. Coming onto her other videos to do exactly what she didn't want people to do is rude and unnecessary, and defeats the whole purpose of the video she made. It doesn't matter if you weren't personally offended by the doll, many people were, and they have every right to be. And Katherine has every right to remove her video and doll if it doesn't feel right to her. Leave her alone, guys.

something about the wendigo doll i’m not native american, but seeing the video was very interesting because catherine added a lot of information on the topic. i’m just happy it wasn’t mocking the culture like all of those insensitive halloween costumes you see online. i personally enjoyed the video because it was a fun learning experience. that’s just my two cents. (once again i’m not native american, and i tried to be as careful as i could while wording my thoughts. hope y’all have a good day or evening or whatever :) also if you need clarification please lmk!)

re: crocheting doll scarves you can probably crochet with regular thread. the larger hook might not matter so much; you can tighten as you go, anyways. i learned crochet a couple of years ago and use a larger hook for thinner/regular yarn for larger holes (pulling tight around the hook means they're all uniform and larger holes means the finished product is more flexible). justine turned out great, though. she looks very cozy.

I’m not a Native person, but I’m fascinated by monsters of all kinds, and the Wendigo has always been my favorite. It’s lame that we can’t enjoy or celebrate something, in our own way, without being silenced and canceled by overly-sensitive white people with too much time on their hands. I’m disappointed that you gave into their peer pressure. The Native community didn’t take issue with your doll-the woke white people on Twitter did. Now that you’ve given into them once, they’ll know they can bully you again and get away with it.

Also... her outfit is so calm and I really enjoy the simple yet detailed outfit and the contrast with the bright glowing eyes. you usually go over the top (which we love) but creating such a calm and collected and really realistic doll is increadable! Im sorry you have to read ALL these comments on THIS video without people appreciating what you actually did here. You turned off the comments on the other video off for a reason and its really rude that people bring it here. Shame on them.

XD Girl, we gotta hook you up with Moonlight Jewel's video of Arteza products on that strawberry-themed Pulip doll. That's the first time I'd heard of gouache being used on dolls, though I'm sure she wasn't the first to think of it. But I will say that it's thanks to you that I finally put my gouache to use for a doll face, and I'm glad I did. I know you used white acrylic for your eye whites (thank you for showing that for Justine and Charley btw, that is so useful for darker complexion dolls), but I find gouache easier to use for that part. I'm not great with paint and often mess up, so having an easy way to lift it and then fix it is so helpful. I love it when we can mix mediums and not deal with crazy chemical reactions, it's fantastic! ^^ While we're talking about hidden gems in doll customizing, gouache combined with JackyOh's favorite brush has done wonders for me. It's well worth the cash to have something super thin, definitely consider checking her out here on USplan if you haven't already. It's always a treat to see your Christmas dolls. Yuliya is still my favorite, but I love them all. They're the videos I turn on the most when I'm having a bad day and need a pick-me-up. Your positive attitude and sweet style combined with holiday cheer make it impossible not to smile! ^^ Justine came out lovely, she looks so warm and cozy, and I just wanna give her a cup of hot cocoa.

Seems like I'm in the minority of these comments but as a native person I'm very glad you took down the doll. I felt uncomfortable seeing it so casually in your videos, it always made my heart race and I was always taught seeing their image or saying their name was dangerous. I think you did the right thing, if something hurts a marginalized community (even when not all of us agree) the best thing you can do as someone outside that community is listen and try to make it better. Thank you for listening to the natives who were hurt and uncomfortable, I appreciate you

About the wendigo comments: I am seeing comments on the wendigo doll a lot, and saw that another person reuploaded the video. Regardless of anyone's opinion in the matter, re-uploading the wendigo video was the wrong thing to do. If you all really wanted to support her, you would let the matter drop and not blatantly go behind her back and re-upload a video she made clear she doesn't want re-uploaded. She turned off comments so we wouldn't bring it up anymore, so stop brining it up. Whether or not she should have taken it down was not and is not our decision to make. She made her choice and we need to respect that. I understand that you all what to comfort her, but she doesn't want to hear about it anymore. I fully support Katherine here, and if you do too, you will let this go.

Do you not know the story? Pretty much, the Wendigo is creature from the Native American culture. The base line is that in making the doll and the little details Katherine added, it was insensitive to Native people and a lil offensive. Not that it was meant to. Although Katherine does education on the dolls she does inspired by different cultures, it seems this time it wasn’t deep enough educating. She recognised this and did something about it. Katherine removed the repaint video and posted an apology (which you can watch and learn more from there). The reason people are talking about it, is because there are people who are in a agreement with her choice and those who aren’t. Sorry if you do know the whole history and ur just asking why people are commenting here. The comments were turned off so people are now discussing the issue.

I was actually worried about this too. So I recently used gouache to do one of my doll's eyes, and I gave it a good spray of MSC before I put on the gloss varnish. Surprisingly enough, that protected it, and the varnish didn't smear the paint. If it were just a gloss varnish with no other barrier to protect it, it probably would smudge, you definitely need a spray sealant first to protect your work.

Anyone "offended" at the Wendigo doll was clearly a Karen pretending to be the "bigger person" - the same way a show got "canceled for blackface" when they were applying a mud mask, nothing to do with racism... stop being offended on others parts, it's not justice, it's annoying & pathetic The wendigo doll was my favorite you've made, the doll video shouldn't of been taken down, I think the apology video was great but clearly you meant no harm & anyone who couldn't see that needs to get a hold of reality & some brain cells
